Whilst leading the Conservation/ Masonry team at Winchester Cathedral, Ross was able to contribute when discussing conservation projects and then effectively carry out the chosen method of repair; demonstrating his practical skills. Ross approaches all his work with a strong set of values based upon the overarching ethics of conservation. He has a great sensitivity and feel for the materials he works with and a gentle manner that makes for an easy working relationship.

Ross has worked for the Winchester based community group, Hyde900 , for the past two years. Hyde900’s activities include a project aimed at, among other aspects, understanding the structure of the now demolished abbey. Over the life of the abbey from construction in the early part of the 12 century to the destruction by Henry VIII the Benedictine abbey was one of the most important and well-endowed abbeys in England. Ross, in his role as consultant to the group on the stone fabric and structure of the abbey, has identified the make-up of stone from the abbey in terms of type, origins, surface treatment and period. His practical experience as a master mason, together with his extensive theoretical knowledge of medieval masonry and his drawing skills, has enabled the group to build up a visual interpretation of the abbey. Much of the work can be seen on the Hyde900 website, www.hyde900.org.uk/about/stones
David Spurling. Project Coordinator for The Stones of Hyde Abbey
Having watched Ross Lovett some years ago working with skill and enthusiasm on the church at Selborne, he was the obvious candidate to undertake repairs to the stonework and grouting of the war memorial of the village. He was a first class choice offering practical advice, a sensible quote and a wonderful end product. Ross is an experienced, innovative and highly regarded member of his profession, and exudes enthusiasm for all his work. We are all enormously grateful to him for the timely and first class work on our memorial in October 2014. I could not recommend him more highly.

Over the past fifteen years Ross has gathered a wealth of expertise and knowledge, working and training within the field of Building Conservation and with particular emphasis in the conservation of masonry buildings.
